Formal requests for legislative oversight regarding this matter have been submitted to the Florida Senate, including multiple communications to Senator Erin Grall in her role as committee chair overseeing child welfare issues. In response to those communications, Senator Grall’s office requested follow-up by the Florida Department of Children and Families through its headquarters-level constituent response process. That engagement is currently underway. (Last updated: January 2026)
Senator Erin Grall is the Florida State Senator for the district in which Marlee and Sean resided at the time of the state action that led to their removal, and she serves as Chair of the Senate committee with jurisdiction over child welfare matters, placing her in a unique position to request and oversee appropriate review.
Members of the public who share concerns about transparency, due process, and accountability in child welfare proceedings are encouraged to respectfully contact appropriate elected officials to request review consistent with their oversight responsibilities and the best interests of children and families.
We encourage all communications to remain respectful and focused on oversight, due process, and the welfare of the children.
Email Senator Erin Grall THE FLORIDA SENATE FLORIDA HOUSE of REPRESENTATIVESConcerns about transparency, due process, and accountability in child welfare systems are not unique to a single family or a single state.
While this website documents what happened to Marlee and Sean, it also reflects broader issues that families across the country have experienced when interacting with child welfare agencies.
Experiences involving child welfare agencies often occur behind closed doors; meaningful public oversight depends on citizens bringing concerns forward through appropriate channels
Community members who have encountered similar concerns, or who wish to support greater oversight and reform in their own communities, are encouraged to contact their local, state, or federal representatives to request review, oversight, and accountability within child welfare systems.
